Number of ex-Twitter Employees suing the company is on rise: Lawyer

Months after Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter and subsequent layoffs, the list of former employees suing the company grows. Ex-Twitter employees from around the world have filed lawsuits alleging breach of contract and discrimination, adding to Elon Musk’s legal woes. Musk laid off approximately 3,700 employees in early November as part of a cost-cutting measure, with hundreds more resigning later.

According to reports citing lawyer Lisa Bloom, the number of employees suing the company is increasing on a daily basis. The lawyer stated that she was already representing approximately 100 ex-Musk employees.

The social media platform had previously been sued for gender discrimination in a class action lawsuit, with allegations that women were disproportionately targeted during the layoffs. Twitter has also been accused of firing employees who were on medical or parental leave without cause.

Amir Shevat, one of Bloom’s clients, told the BBC that he disagreed with Twitter’s downsizing strategy. Workers were initially promised four months’ severance pay, but were eventually offered a month’s salary with “zero justification,” he claims.

He was the head of product for the Twitter developer platform and was in charge of around 150 employees at the time of the layoffs. He said almost his entire team was laid off over the course of a single night, describing Musk’s treatment of staff as “unjustifiable”.

However, Twitter’s legal woes do not stop with hundreds of disgruntled former employees.

Several landlords are currently suing the company for unpaid rent. The latest update came from Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco and its British offices, with the lawsuit alleging that Twitter failed to pay rent for its headquarters and other locations.
