Meesho, the prominent Indian e-commerce platform, has appointed Mohit Rajani as its new Chief Product Officer. This announcement follows a recent expansion of its board with the addition of four senior industry executives.
Rajani, who previously held key leadership roles at Meta, Google, Carta, and Instagram, will now lead Meesho’s product organization. His responsibilities will encompass overseeing the product management, design, and analytics teams at the Bengaluru-based company.
Before joining Meesho, Rajani was instrumental at Meta, where he spearheaded Messenger’s monetization initiative. He was also part of the core team at Instagram, where he was pivotal in launching ads and business products, expanding the platform to over one million advertisers. At Carta, he managed a diverse product portfolio and led initiatives including international expansion and the development of new Generative AI-enabled products.
“I have long admired Meesho’s transformative impact on ecommerce in India. The company’s mission to democratise internet commerce resonates deeply with my passion for creating meaningful products,” Rajani said in a statement.
Meesho’s founder and CEO Vidit Aatrey welcomed Rajani to the team, stating, “Rajani’s leadership will be instrumental in driving product innovation, enhancing customer experience and building a world class product organisation as we continue to scale our platform.”
Since its inception in 2015 by Vidit Aatrey and Barnwal, Meesho has seen significant growth, with over 15 lakh sellers on its platform and more than 140 million annual transacting users. The company has raised over $1.08 billion to date.
The recent addition of Rajani comes on the heels of Meesho’s efforts to strengthen its leadership team. Last month, the company welcomed four industry veterans to its board, including former JP Morgan chairman Kalpana Morparia for South and Southeast Asia, Jubilant Bhartia Group’s founder and co-chairman Hari S Bhartia, Ema Unlimited’s founder and CEO Surojit Chatterjee, and PhonePe’s non-executive chairman Rohit Bhagat.
The company also experienced notable leadership changes earlier this year. In March, Harsh Chaudhary, the CXO of monetization, exited after a two-year stint. Following this, Utkrishta Kumar, the chief experience officer at Meesho’s business division, resigned after a five-year tenure, and Kirti Varun Avasarala, the chief product officer, also stepped down after four years.
Despite these leadership transitions, Meesho reported strong financial performance, with operating revenue reaching INR 5,735 crore in FY23, marking a 77% increase from INR 3,232 crore in the previous fiscal year. However, Fashnear Technologies, the parent company of Meesho, reported a net loss of INR 1,675 crore in FY23, down 48% from INR 3,248 crore in the previous year.
