Media Outlets Eligible to Share in Ad Revenue from X, Reports Reveal

Elon Musk has revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that news organizations will have the opportunity to participate in the platform’s ad revenue sharing initiative, just like creators. This move is expected to incentivize journalists and media outlets to post content directly on the platform rather than sharing external article links.

In addition to this announcement, Musk previously outlined his plan to eliminate headlines from news articles shared on X, leaving only the featured image from the links. However, this could lead users to include text in their posts, potentially driving interest in X’s premium service that allows for posts of up to 25,000 characters. This development opens the door for individuals and organizations to create exclusive stories for the platform to leverage its unique offerings.

In a post on X, Musk encouraged journalists by stating, “If you’re a journalist who wants more freedom to write and a higher income, then publish directly on this platform!”

To participate in the ad revenue sharing program, organizations and individuals will likely need to be subscribed to X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue), possess a Stripe payment account, and achieve at least five million views within three months on the platform.

In August, several creators experienced substantial payouts when X shared its ad revenue with them, with some receiving payments totaling thousands of dollars. This move by Musk reflects a push to foster a more engaging and lucrative ecosystem for content creators and news outlets on the platform.
