Lightstorm Raises Rs 700 Crore to Expand Network Infrastructure

New Delhi: Cloud and data centre networking solutions provider Lightstorm has raised Rs 700 crore (approximately $80.5 million) in funding led by NIIF Infrastructure Finance Limited (NIIF IFL). The investment will support the company’s efforts to expand its network infrastructure and facilitate digital transformation initiatives for enterprises.

The funds will enhance Lightstorm’s connectivity offerings, scale operations, and build additional fibre networks across India. The company aims to meet the increasing demand for data centre connectivity, driven by enterprises integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital solutions into their operations.

Lightstorm, founded by Amajit Gupta and Ranjan Banerjee, specialises in providing scalable and secure connectivity solutions across cloud and data centre environments. Since its inception in 2020, the company has developed over 30,000 kilometres of fibre network in India with a capacity of around 700 terabits per second (Tbps). The network interconnects nearly 60 data centres across the country, catering to more than 100 customers.

“We are thrilled to secure this funding from NIIF IFL, which validates our growth roadmap and reinforces the confidence that leading financial institutions have in Lightstorm’s vision,” said Amajit Gupta, Group CEO and Managing Director of Lightstorm. “This partnership will fuel our growth plans, allowing us to tap into expansion new opportunities and unlock our business potential.”

As AI-driven services and data centre infrastructure continue to evolve in India, Lightstorm aims to establish a connectivity backbone to support this transformation. The additional capital will help improve operational capabilities and extend the company’s reach to large enterprises nationwide.

Lightstorm is also expanding internationally, with a subsea cable footprint spanning 21,000 kilometres and connecting data centres in the USA, Japan, and Australia. The company’s presence in Indonesia and the Middle East further enhances its position as a key player in digital infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region.

Lightstorm’s latest funding follows a significant $300 million investment in 2019 by New York-based I Squared Capital into Lightstorm Telecom Ventures, the company’s telecom infrastructure platform in India.
