India’s leading eyewear retailer, Lenskart, is seeking three accomplished entrepreneurs to join the company as Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIR) to develop the next generation of direct-to-consumer (D2C) eyewear brands. Lenskart’s CEO and founder, Peyush Bansal, made the announcement in a recent LinkedIn post, calling for experienced individuals who have previously scaled a lifestyle D2C brand to over ₹50 crore (approximately $6 million) annually in India.
Bansal shared his vision, stating, “At Lenskart.com we are now looking for 3 Entrepreneurs in Residence to build the next generation of Direct-to-consumer eyewear brands. These eyewear brands will be serving specific consumer segments solving a specific use case/building a unique design proposition for customers.”
The new eyewear brands will target specific consumer segments, addressing unique needs and offering distinct design propositions to cater to a diverse customer base. Bansal is particularly interested in entrepreneurs who have successfully scaled a D2C brand and are now looking to take on the challenge of building a global eyewear brand with a significantly larger scale.
“If you are an existing or ex-entrepreneur and have built a D2C brand before in any lifestyle category of 50 cr a year (6 million US dollars) plus scale in India, and would now like to shift gears and explore building a global eyewear brand of 50x larger scale, please DM me your details with a short note on why you would be a great fit for this opportunity. Based on your note, Lenskart office will get in touch with you,” Bansal added.
Bansal’s post has sparked a wide range of reactions on social media. While many appreciated the initiative, some users questioned the feasibility of hiring established entrepreneurs for such roles.
One user remarked, “I feel, if anyone had made 50 cr in a year here in India they may challenge you in the segment of eyewear segment but anyways #CFBR.”
Another user commented, “If a person has built anything meaningful say even 10/15cr ARR business, then that person will never go back for any job. In India in current times, it’s not that hard to build a sustainable business. They can easily go for an SME IPO with even 10cr revenues and grow over time instead of finding a job again.”
