Key Departures at Freshworks: CHRO Suman Gopal and CMO Stacey Epstein Step Down
- ByStartupStory | August 7, 2023
Top-level changes are underway at Freshworks, a prominent software-as-a-service (SaaS) company, as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Suman Gopal and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Stacey Epstein have decided to leave their roles. Freshworks, which is listed on the Nasdaq, has confirmed the departures and announced its plans to fill these key positions.
Freshworks has been proactive in responding to these changes. A new CHRO has been chosen to assume the role at the end of August, and the company is currently engaged in the process of evaluating potential candidates for the CMO position. Freshworks has emphasized its commitment to a smooth transition, with departing executives continuing their responsibilities during this phase.
The news of these departures follows Freshworks’ strong performance in the second quarter, where it exceeded its own forecasts by achieving $11.7 million in adjusted operating profit. This comes on the heels of the company’s noteworthy achievement in Q1, when it reported its first-ever quarterly adjusted operating profit of $3.9 million since becoming publicly traded.
These changes in leadership follow the departure of Freshworks’ Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Shanmugam Krishnasamy, who quietly left the company in September 2022. In light of this, the company has been operating without a CTO, with Chief Product Officer Prakash Ramamurthy overseeing both the product and engineering teams.
Furthermore, Freshworks has undertaken strategic workforce adjustments, reducing its workforce by over 200 employees since December 2022. As of now, the company’s employee strength stands at approximately 5,000.
