The Delhi Startup Festival is underway and serial innovators from Kashmir are creating a deep impact in the national capital. Three entrepreneurs from the valley have come up with some mind blowing ideas. Shazia Jan has come up with a LPG-powered samavar (traditional Kashmiri pot for making tea that otherwise runs on coal), Mushtaq Ahmed Dar has developed a LPG cylinder carrying device, and Aabid Rahman Dar has brought a modified snow-cutter that works wonders in narrow alleyways of the Valley where larger equipment can’t enter are catching market’s eyes.
Aabid Dar’s snow-cutter has already created a big impact and patent has also been filed. Dar is a first year M.Tech student of structural engineering at the NIT in Jalandhar. He hails from Anantnag and is adamant on licensing the technology to others for manufacturing and sale with GIAN already supporting the development under its Micro Venture Innovation Fund. Dar’s work has helped in modifying tilling machines to work as snowplows. These machines are capable of clearing three feet of snow in one swift go.

Shazia Jan (30), an Anantnag-based housewife, has been able to fabricate her samavar by inserting a curved gas burner inside the cylindrical shaped fire container. “The modified samavar takes 15 minutes to serve 25 cups of tea, saves time, and cuts out coal-induced pollution,” says Jan, who is currently looking for industrial partners to take her innovation to the next level.
The unique foldable device to carry LPG cylinders in hilly terrains has been developed by Mushtaq Ahmed Dar who also hails from Anantnag. This technological innovation saved a lot of lives during Covid with GIAN funding the gadget. As of now 1,000 pieces have already been sold.
