Karnataka Transport Department Announces Uniform Cab Fares for Ola, Uber, and Other Taxi Operators

The Karnataka Transport Department has introduced uniform cab fares for app-cab aggregators like Ola and Uber, as well as other non-app-based taxi operators in cities across the state. The new fares aim to standardize pricing and provide clarity for both passengers and service providers.

In a notification issued on Saturday, the department classified cabs into three categories based on the cost of the vehicle. For cabs valued at less than Rs 10 lakh, the fixed fare for a minimum distance of four kilometers will be Rs 100, with each additional kilometer costing Rs 24. Vehicles priced between Rs 10-15 lakh will have a fixed fare of Rs 115 for the minimum distance, with each additional kilometer priced at Rs 28. Cabs priced at Rs 15 lakh or more will have a fixed fare of Rs 130 for the minimum distance, with each additional kilometer costing Rs 32.

The notification also specifies that taxis operating between 12-6 am can levy an additional charge of 10 percent. Taxi operators and aggregators are allowed to collect GST and toll charges from consumers. Fares should not be charged based on the duration of the trip; only prices fixed by the state government, based on the distance traveled, can be levied.

Additionally, there will be no waiting charges for the first five minutes, after which Rs one will be charged per minute. These measures are intended to streamline the taxi fare structure and ensure transparency in pricing for passengers using app-based and non-app-based taxi services in Karnataka.
