Jaxay Shah, Chairman of the Quality Council of India (QCI), has been named to the board of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
ONDC is a Ministry of Commerce and Industry project that allows small retailers to provide their services and commodities to customers across India via an eCommerce system where purchasers can purchase products sold on any platform.
“Shah has been appointed to represent QCI on the board of ONDC as (promoter) director,” QCI said in a statement. Shah is also the managing director of Savvy Infrastructure, an Ahmedabad-based real estate firm.
Shah said, “Through this initiative, we envision empowering small merchants, local businesses, and consumers up to the last mile by breaking silos and promoting access and innovation like never before.”
ONDC would have more than 50 food and beverage sellers in the initial phase. It would also have a launch event on December 22 in Meerut, with officials from the Department for Promotion of Internal Trade (DPIIT), various startups, and MSMEs slated to participate.
IN September of this year, ONDC was released in beta testing mode in Bengaluru.
