India’s Prime Minister Modi announces creation of a ‘Startup Bridge’ to connect with Italy

To strengthen the strategic partnership between their countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Thursday the introduction of a ‘startup bridge’ connecting India and Italy.
During a press briefing following a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, PM Modi stated that “India was experiencing promising opportunities in the fields of co-production and co-development, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, semiconductors, telecommunications, and space”. He suggested that these sectors could be mutually beneficial for both nations.
PM Modi announced that “there has been an agreement between India and Italy to hold frequent joint military exercises and training programs between their respective armed forces”. Additionally, the two countries have collaborated closely on matters such as terrorism and separatism, as PM Modi mentioned during their extensive talks on advancing this partnership.
PM Modi expressed his appreciation for Italy’s active involvement in the Indo-Pacific region, stating that he was delighted to learn that Italy has chosen to participate in the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative. He believes that “with this action, the two nations will be able to identify particular domains for cooperation to enhance their collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region”.
On Thursday, Italian Prime Minister Meloni embarked on a state visit to India and was given a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where PM Modi greeted her on the forecourt. The Italian PM was presented with a tri-services guard of honour. She later paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
Minister of State for Health Bharti Pawar welcomed the Italian PM upon her arrival at the airport. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and a prominent business delegation are accompanying her.
It is worth noting that PM Meloni has been invited as the keynote speaker and chief guest for the 8th Raisina Dialogue.
