India and the US have sealed an agreement aimed at fostering innovation by bolstering collaboration among startups. Signed on November 14 in San Francisco, the memorandum signifies a significant stride towards amplifying cooperation within the startup ecosystems of both nations. The accord involves Indian industry leaders, CEOs of major ICT firms, venture capital executives, and startup founders engaging in discussions to enhance technological collaboration between the US and India.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on intertwining the dynamic startup environments of both countries, surmounting regulatory obstacles, exchanging insights on fundraising, and nurturing innovation and employment growth, particularly in critical and emerging technologies. Identified under the India-US initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), the agreement aligns with efforts to fortify the startup landscape within deep tech sectors.
This collaboration anticipates a positive economic impact, aiming to attract investment and stimulate employment opportunities, especially within startups operating in critical and emerging technology realms. The cooperation’s scope encompasses a series of India-US Innovation Handshake events scheduled for early 2024. These events comprise an investment forum facilitating the market entry of startup ideas and products from both countries and a hackathon in Silicon Valley where startups will pitch solutions to global economic challenges.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that the Handshake embodies a shared commitment to fortify the startup ecosystem and foster collaboration in critical and emerging technologies between India and the US.
