India Aims to Become the Factory of the World, Says Minister Mandaviya at GCPMH 2023 Summit

India’s significant strides in pharmaceutical manufacturing have earned it the reputation of being the “Pharmacy of the World,” and now the country sets its sights on becoming the “Factory of the World.” Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, delivering the closing address at the 3rd Edition of the Summit on “Global Chemicals and Petrochemicals Manufacturing Hubs in India” (GCPMH 2023), emphasized India’s potential to become a global manufacturing powerhouse. Hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the two-day summit witnessed active participation from various sectors and stakeholders, all united by the theme of “Sustainability and Circularity.”
In his address, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the crucial role of a vibrant industry in boosting the economy and achieving self-reliance (aatmanirbharta) for the nation. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting the industry and building a holistic ecosystem that ensures maximum governance while minimizing government interference. “We don’t think in token, but in total. We want to drive innovation and sustainable solutions for positive change and progress in this sector,” stated the Minister.
The Secretary of the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Shri Arun Baroka, also lauded the collaborative platform provided by the GCPMH 2023 Summit. The event facilitated interactions between central and state governments, as well as industry leaders, enabling them to address key aspects of the chemicals and petrochemicals industry, including funding and environmental clearances, in alignment with the sustainability theme.
