Gogoro Partners with HPCL to Establish Battery Swapping Stations Throughout India

Battery swapping company Gogoro, listed on Nasdaq, has entered into an initial agreement with HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd) to establish battery swapping stations across India in the coming years. This partnership aims to create an extensive battery swapping infrastructure for electric two-wheelers, with plans to roll out these stations across HPCL’s nationwide retail outlets.

HPCL, a public sector oil marketing firm, operates over 21,000 retail outlets across India. The collaboration with Gogoro marks a significant step toward promoting electric mobility in the country.

Horace Luke, the founder and CEO of Gogoro, stated, “We are announcing a partnership with HPCL to roll out thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations across its retail outlets throughout the country in the coming years.” India is in the early stages of a substantial transition towards electric two-wheeler transportation, and battery swapping is recognized as a critical element for widespread adoption.

Gogoro and HPCL aim to work together with the Indian business community, national and local governments to establish an open, accessible, and scalable battery swapping and electric vehicle ecosystem.

Amit Garg, Director of Marketing at HPCL, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “HPCL and Gogoro are partnering to develop a broad battery swapping infrastructure for two-wheeler vehicles that will both grow and sustain a leading electric vehicle ecosystem in India that is safe, clean, and readily available across India’s cities.” Gogoro’s platform, with its track record of nearly 500 million battery swaps, provides a model for HPCL to follow and implement.
