GOAT Brand Labs announces acquisition of Ethnic apparel brand Imara

GOAT Brand Labs, a D2C rollup ecommerce startup, has announced the acquisition of Imara, a women-focused ethnic apparel brand. GOAT intends to take Imara to the international market following the acquisition.

The news comes nearly two weeks after GOAT paid an undisclosed sum for clothing brand Chumbak. Interestingly, Imara was one of four D2C brands in talks with GOAT at the time.

Imara is a Universal Sportsbiz clothing brand founded in 2015 by Anjana Reddy. It sells premium ethnic wear for women over the age of 40. It also oversees brands such as Wrogn, Imara, and Ms Taken.

Imara claims to be available on ecommerce marketplaces like Myntra as well as more than 70 retail outlets like Shopper Stop.

GOAT, founded in 2021 by Rishi Vasudev and Rameswar Mishra, works with D2C founders to help them scale their businesses.

TrueBrowns and The Label Life, two of the startup’s portfolio companies, have grown 10X in the last year. Pepe Inner Fashion, NutriGlow, and Voylla are among the other companies in its portfolio.

GOAT raised $50 million in equity and debt funding in June of last year from Winter Capital, 9Unicorns, Venture Catalysts, Oxyzo, Mayfield, Nordstar, and Better Capital, among others.

It competes in India with companies such as UpScalio and Mensa Brands.
