General Autonomy, co-founded by the creators of ShareChat, has successfully raised $3 million in funding from investors including Elevation Capital and India Quotient, along with notable angel investors such as Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Ramakant Sharma, and Ankush Sachdeva. The startup, led by Farhid Ahsan and Bhanu Singh, who previously held active roles in ShareChat, aims to pioneer industrial robotics infused with artificial intelligence (AI). The announcement was made by Ahsan on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude for the support from investors like @IndiaQuotient and @ElevCap, as well as mentors @KhandujaM and @AnandLunia.
In alignment with the Indian government’s aspirations, as outlined in the Ministry of Electronics and Internet Technology’s draft National Strategy on Robotics, General Autonomy seeks to contribute to India’s goal of becoming a global robotics powerhouse by 2030.
The post on X highlighted the commitment of the founders to develop AI-driven robots specifically designed for the industrial sector. The strategic importance of robotics is emphasized in the government’s Make in India 2.0 vision, recognizing it as one of the pivotal sub-sectors to enhance India’s global integration.
Despite the potential in the industrial robotics segment, challenges persist, as noted in a Tracxn report. Out of the 45 startups focusing on industrial robotics in India, only about 12 have secured funding, showcasing the hurdles faced by companies in this domain.
Notable recipients of funding in this sector include Ati Motors, CynLr, Accio Robotics, and Vyorius. General Autonomy’s successful seed funding marks a significant step in navigating these challenges and advancing innovation in India’s evolving robotics landscape.
