Flipkart Shuts Down ANS Commerce, Lays Off Entire Workforce
- ByStartupStory | March 1, 2025

Flipkart has officially shut down ANS Commerce, its full-stack e-commerce enabler, just three years after acquiring it in 2022. The closure has resulted in the layoff of all employees, though the exact number remains undisclosed. At the end of FY2022, ANS Commerce had a workforce of around 600 employees.
Founded in 2017 by Amit Monga, Vibhor Sahare, Sushant Puri, and Nakul Singh, ANS Commerce provided comprehensive e-commerce support, including store technology, performance marketing, marketplace management, warehousing, and fulfillment. The company partnered with over 100 brands, including Jack & Jones, Vero Moda, HUL, Piramal, Lakme, and CEAT.
A Flipkart spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating, “After careful consideration, ANS Commerce has decided to close its operations. As we wind down, we remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all stakeholders, including employees and customers.”
To mitigate the impact of layoffs, Flipkart plans to offer internal job opportunities, outplacement services, and severance packages.
Despite growing its operating revenue by 39.4% to ₹54 crore in FY24 from ₹39 crore in FY23, ANS Commerce’s net losses deepened by 27.1% to ₹73.8 crore. Sources indicate that Flipkart acquired ANS Commerce in a deal worth ₹250-300 crore ($35-40 million). However, mounting losses may have contributed to the decision to shut down operations.
Even as Flipkart winds down ANS Commerce, its venture capital arm, Flipkart Ventures, announced investments in five startups through its third cohort of the Flipkart Leap Ahead (FLA) program. The selected startups—Xportel, Factors.ai, Expertia.ai, Bharat Krushi Seva, and Visa2Fly—focus on AI, logistics, agritech, and travel tech.
Each startup will receive equity investments of up to $500,000, along with mentorship from Flipkart leaders and industry experts. Flipkart Ventures has now backed over 20 startups across deep tech, fintech, generative AI, and sustainability.
