The locally developed e-commerce platform Flipkart today debuted “Flipkart Green,” a special virtual store on its app that compiles thousands of sustainable products to serve consumers seeking to live a sustainable lifestyle. The store offers a wide range of goods from more than 40 brands in the categories of fashion, cosmetics and makeup, grooming, food, home, and lifestyle. In the future, it will also sell items in the following categories: toys, stationery, electronics, appliances, sports and fitness, food, healthcare, and food.
Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice President, Category and Marketplace at Flipkart said, “At Flipkart, we view sustainability as a holistic approach that encompasses the environment, individuals, and society. Through the ‘Flipkart Green’ Sustainability Store, we aim to create a sustainable, equitable and a more inclusive e-commerce ecosystem.
We have consistently endeavored to integrate sustainability across business functions through initiatives ranging from electric mobility, green buildings, renewable energy to plastic-free packaging. This initiative will continue to bring various mindful brands under one umbrella through a one-stop online destination, for customers. This also aligns with our goal to promote sustainably sourced products towards improving social, economic and environmental well-being of the larger ecosystem.”
Other than announcing its net zero target for 2040, Flipkart has taken actions over the past two years, such as joining the Pack4Good and CanopyStyle initiatives, partnering with Canopy Planet, a non-profit environmental organisation, for responsible sourcing of sustainable packaging and man-made cellulosic fibres. Flipkart has also promised to have all of its logistics vehicles be electric by 2030.
