The British High Commission has been organizing the ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition annually since 2017 to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11).
Last year’s winner, Jagriti Yadav from Lucknow, enjoyed a diverse range of diplomatic activities during her tenure, including meetings with notable figures such as Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, Mayor of West Yorkshire Ms. Tracy Brabin, and Executive Chairman of Wipro Mr. Rishad Premji. Jagriti also had the honor of launching a book celebrating 75 Indian Women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) alongside Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
The ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ initiative resonates deeply with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. At its core are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a compelling call for action by nations across the globe.
This remarkable competition offers an unparalleled chance for India’s young women to step into a position of influence, contributing their ideas and perspectives to a global dialogue for change.
