DuckDuckGo raises security standards, refuses pop-ups from Google and more

DuckDuckGo, an online browser, has announced that it will no longer accept pop-ups from other browsers, such as Google sign-in. According to TechRadar, the browser has mentioned sites like Reddit, which usually brings a Google pop-up when loading a webpage.

As per reports, users of DuckDuckGo will not witness misleading pop-ups from apps like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and more. The company has taken this action to secure its user base for any misleading information.

DuckDuckGo’s official Twitter handle tweeted an awareness tweet, “Google sign-in pop-ups are increasingly showing up on non-Google websites. What it does “simple and fast” is give Google consent to track you. Our apps & extensions are now equipped with Google Login Pop-Up Protection.” Followed by a link to download or update the latest version.

Meanwhile, Google India has teamed up with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for the Project Vaani initiative that would gather speech data across India and use it to create an artificial intelligence (AI)-based language model that can understand diverse Indian languages and dialects.

“India’s spoken languages change every few kilometers, machines have no hope. So, research and innovation for inclusive language AI requires capturing this diversity in our datasets,” Prasanta Kumar Ghosh, a professor at IISc, who leads these initiatives, said, explaining the reasons for launching Project Vaani.
