Delhivery Launches Shared Dark Stores for Rapid Same-Day Deliveries

Leading logistics company Delhivery announced during an earnings call that it is launching a network of shared dark stores to enhance rapid same-day deliveries for e-commerce companies. This innovative service allows multiple businesses to utilize the same dark stores, significantly reducing costs compared to maintaining individual dark stores.
Delhivery’s CEO, Sahil Barua, emphasized the cost-effectiveness of this new model. “The idea is to allow companies to variablise their costs…I don’t think it will be a significant driver of revenue for us,” Barua stated.
This strategic shift marks a departure for Delhivery, traditionally recognized for its large intercity shipment capabilities. However, as the demand for rapid deliveries grows, with expectations often set at 15-20 minutes, logistics companies are adapting to meet these new challenges.
Barua further explained the integration of this service with Delhivery’s existing infrastructure. “We already have mother warehouses for quick commerce dark stores and handle fulfillment from warehouses to dark stores. This new service will also connect the last mile,” he said.
Unlike the ultra-fast 15-20 minute delivery services offered by quick commerce players such as Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto, Delhivery’s shared dark store network is designed for slightly longer delivery windows of 2-4 hours. This makes it an ideal solution for products like mobile phones and related items, which do not require immediate delivery but still benefit from expedited shipping.
