Deepinder Goyal steps down from Urban Company board in the wake of Blinkit’s entry into the home services market

According to sources, Deepinder Goyal, the co-founder of Zomato, has resigned from his position on the board of Delhi-NCR’s Urban Company, as Zomato’s Blinkit division prepares to enter the home services market.

Moneycontrol’s sources have revealed that Blinkit has already launched home chef services through a Gurugram-based company named ChefKart, although the nature and scope of Blinkit’s upcoming entry into the home services market have not yet been finalised.

It remains unclear which specific services will be offered through Blinkit, and it’s possible that it may simply advertise home services on its platform.

However, if Blinkit does decide to launch home services, it will pose a direct challenge to Urban Company. Deepinder Goyal had joined Urban Company’s board in March 2022.

Zomato CEO

Zomato recently introduced a new category called Zomato Legends, which offers inter-city food delivery services. This allows customers to order food from popular restaurants located in different cities.

Despite industry experts predicting a slowdown in the growth of the food delivery sector, Zomato has introduced several new services over the past year. However, these services are currently only available to customers with a Gold subscription.

Additionally, in November of last year, Zomato laid off 3% of its workforce and saw the departure of three high-level executives, including co-founder Mohit Gupta. Former food delivery chief Rahul Ganjoo, who was heading Zomato’s new initiatives, and Siddharth Jhawar, the former Head of Intercity Legends Service, also resigned in recent weeks.
