Commerce Ministry signs agreement with Amazon for Export Hub initiative

The Commerce Ministry has forged an agreement with Amazon to empower MSMEs in 20 selected districts, focusing on aspects like digital cataloging and tax guidance to bolster exports through e-commerce channels. This collaboration aims to enhance capacity through training sessions for small and medium enterprises, facilitating their access to global markets.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed with the participation of officials from DGFT, including Director General Santosh Sarangi, and representatives from Amazon, seeks to leverage the ‘Districts as Export Hubs’ initiative outlined in the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. This strategic move aims to link local producers, including those in rural areas, with international supply chains.

By co-creating capacity-building programs, workshops, and training, Amazon and DGFT intend to assist MSMEs in selling their ‘Made in India’ products to a global customer base. The primary objective revolves around utilizing e-commerce platforms to enable local exporters, manufacturers, and MSMEs to connect with potential international buyers.

Under this collaboration, various e-commerce platforms across the nation will identify districts for capacity-building activities in partnership with DGFT’s Regional Authorities.

Amazon, in particular, will conduct sessions in 20 districts as part of this initiative, with discussions underway for similar collaborations with other platforms like Flipkart/Walmart, Ebay, and others in different regions of the country.

This joint effort supplements DGFT’s initiatives aimed at supporting new and first-time exporters and MSMEs, furthering India’s ambition to achieve a substantial increase in goods exports to reach the goal of USD 1 trillion by 2030.
