In a significant step towards fostering healthcare innovation from within India’s public health infrastructure, the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has officially launched its flagship MedTech incubation program, NIRMAN. Announced on the occasion of Doctors’ Day 2025, the initiative aims to support 20 early-stage startups working on breakthrough solutions in the MedTech sector, with the unified goal of transforming healthcare “From Ward to World.”
NIRMAN stands out as the country’s first MedTech cohort incubated directly inside a government hospital. It offers a unique advantage — mandatory clinical immersion. All selected startups will spend two weeks embedded in real hospital settings, interacting with doctors, nurses, patients, and administrators to understand healthcare delivery on the ground. This on-site exposure is expected to significantly shape how founders identify problems and design context-driven solutions, setting the program apart from conventional incubators.
CMI GIMS operates within GIMS, an autonomous medical college under the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and home to a 630-bed tertiary care hospital. The institution is the only government hospital in the state accredited by both NABH and NABL. With more than 5 lakh patients treated annually, the hospital offers an extensive real-world testing ground for healthcare innovations. The program is designed to facilitate deep tech development through access to Startup OPD, dry and wet labs, dedicated office space, and validation infrastructure. In addition, the centre is listed under ICMR-INTENT and partners with Stanford Biodesign India, further strengthening its global and academic credibility.
The NIRMAN cohort has opened applications for startups working across medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, and biotechnology. Selected founders will receive structured mentorship, access to clinical trials, ethical review boards, product validation opportunities, and ecosystem connect for scale-up. According to the organizers, the cohort is not just about funding or acceleration, but about embedding innovation into the public health ecosystem — with support for device, software, and drug validation all under one roof.
Speaking about the launch, a representative from CMI GIMS said, “Doctors’ Day felt like the most appropriate moment to introduce a program like NIRMAN. It brings innovators into the very wards they’re hoping to impact. At CMI GIMS, we’re committed to building solutions that emerge from the hospital system itself — relevant, scalable, and grounded in real challenges.”
As India rapidly expands its healthcare infrastructure and aims to become a global leader in medical innovation, incubators like CMI GIMS are playing a critical role. NIRMAN promises to be more than just a startup program — it is a mission to translate bedside insights into breakthrough healthcare technologies with the power to scale globally.
