Funding Alert

CloudFeather Games raises $1.25 million in seed funding led by Lumikai and others

On Wednesday, Bengaluru-based CloudFeather Games announced that it has secured a seed investment of $1.25 million (Rs 9.78 crore) from Lumikai, Venture Highway, OYO’s global chief strategy officer, Maninder Gulati, and the CEO of Nazara Technologies, Manish Agarwal. The startup offers WEB3 tools and real-money gaming to game producers, and intends to use the additional funding to extend its developer outreach initiatives for both domestic & global game studios.

Romi and Yash Chandra founded CloudFeather in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 with the goal of giving game makers the ability to incorporate interaction and monetization into their creations. A collection of full-stack competing formats (tooling kits) that would give developers an alternative to in-app purchases (IAPs) and adverts as a third source of revenue is the answer. Since January 2022, CloudFeather Games has been quietly developing its Software Development Kit (SDK) and has begun testing it with external developers.

Romi Chandra, the co-founder of CloudFeather Games, said, “Except for ads and in-app purchases, casual games lack significant income opportunities. Given this, there is the opportunity for disruption by offering a cutting-edge revenue stream that boosts player engagement without requiring game developers to redesign their current game economies. We look forward to collaborating with gaming industry giants Lumikai and a curated set of key investors.”

The first dedicated venture capital firm for gaming and interactive media in India is called Lumikai. A new generation of skilled and creative Indian founders is being developed through the fund. The company has supported several Indian businesses, including Bombay Play (developing cross-platform, globally hypersocial games), Loco, and Eloelo (a creator-led platform for social gaming and live streaming), among others.

Beyond in-app purchases (IAPs) and advertisements, CloudFeather offers developers the third pillar of monetization in the form of full-stack competitive formats (or “tooling kits”). A strong level of validation for such a product among potential customers was shown by the first most valuable player (MVP), which was introduced to ten gaming firms in December 2021.
