CEO Claims Indian Engineers Are a ‘Different Breed’ – Here’s Why

Roshan Patel, founder and CEO of Arrow, highlighted the relentless work ethic often observed among Indian engineers. Patel shared a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Indian engineers are a different breed,” illustrating how the drive to meet professional demands can sometimes overshadow personal well-being.

In the shared exchange, Patel reached out to an employee, suggesting they take some time off. “Hey noticed you haven’t taken any time off in a while. Just checking in and definitely encourage you to take a break if needed!” Patel wrote. The engineer’s response was striking: “I don’t need a break, sir. My body is a vessel for the company to find product market fit.”

The post quickly gained traction, amassing over four million views. It sparked a wide range of reactions from users, highlighting both admiration and concern for the work culture in the tech industry.

One user commented, “Elon Musk searching for him.”

Another shared, “They really are though. Once worked at a consultancy where the majority of my team was Indian. They grind like no other.”

However, not all responses were positive. Some users pointed out the potential downsides of such an intense work ethic. “If you haven’t noticed the underlying sarcasm you haven’t worked with Indian engineers enough,” one user noted. Another remarked, “People who have built something will 100% relate to this, others might just call this toxic.”

One user commented, “I hope the poor soul has enough equity. I was this kind of a soul, until I realized how much of my life was in the rear view mirror.”

The conversation also highlighted broader concerns about corporate culture and work-life balance. One user stated, “Can’t possibly stress enough about how CORPORATE DOESN’T OWE YOU ANYTHING. Get a life beyond your job, they only care about themselves and their profits.” Another added, “This is actually PTSD from working under toxic Indian management for years.”

The post has sparked a debate about the expectations placed on engineers and the need for a balanced approach to work and personal life. While the dedication of Indian engineers is commendable, it’s essential to recognize the importance of well-being and sustainable work practices in the long term.
