ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, eliminates hundreds of jobs in China

The South China Morning Post claimed on Tuesday that ByteDance, the Chinese business that owns the video app TikTok, will terminate hundreds of staff from various departments at the end of 2022 as a cost-saving measure.

The employment layoffs have been made at the company’s gaming and real estate divisions as well as Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, with approximately 600 million daily users, SCMP said, citing sources. According to the article, the jobs lost only make up a minor portion of ByteDance’s staff.
