BYJU’S Appoints Former upGrad CEO Arjun Mohan to Lead International Business

According to a report by Moneycontrol, edtech giant BYJU’S has made a significant move by appointing former upGrad CEO Arjun Mohan as the CEO of its international business. Mohan had joined upGrad in 2020 after stepping down as Chief Business Officer at BYJU’S. His journey in the edtech industry began in 2008 when he started working with BYJU’S as a consultant. However, in January 2023, he left upGrad. Mohan will now be responsible for overseeing BYJU’S operations outside of India, while Mrinal Mohit takes charge of the company’s operations within the country. BYJU’S has chosen not to provide any official statement regarding this appointment.

BYJU’S has recently been in the spotlight for various reasons. According to a Bloomberg report, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has initiated an inspection and requested a report within six weeks to assess the state of affairs at BYJU’S. Based on the findings of the inspection, the government will decide whether to involve the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO). This development follows the ongoing challenges faced by the edtech company, including conflicts with creditors over a $1.2-billion term loan B. Last month, three key board members, including GV Ravishankar from Peak XV Partners, Russell Dreisenstock from Prosus, and Vivian Wu from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, officially resigned from their positions at BYJU’S. In addition, Deloitte Haskins & Sells, the statutory auditors for BYJU’S and Aakash, resigned due to the company’s delay in filing its financial statements for FY22.
