The Finance Minister in her presentation of the union budget 2022-23 has depicted that the government has repealed 1,486 union laws varying across different dimensions with the sole aim of promoting Ease of Doing Business in the country. Furthermore, she highlighted that the government has repealed close to 25,000 compliances in the recent years.
Repealing approximately 1500 union laws is aimed at improving the ranking of the country in terms of Ease of Doing Business index. The FM firmly believes that repealing the laws will help facilitate trust-based governance. Furthermore, the new phase will be guided by the active involvement of the state, digitization of manual processes, and integration of the central and state-level systems.
Sitharaman notes that this is a result of the government’s strong commitment to “minimum government and maximum governance.” Sitharaman said, “Our trust in the public and ease of doing business is what is highlighted here.” Further adding, “the next phase of ease of doing business (Ease of doing business 2.0) and ease of living will be launched. In our endeavour to improve productive efficiency of capital and human resources, we will follow the idea of trust-based governance.”
Additionally, crowdsourcing of suggestions and ground-level assessments of the impact with the active involvement of citizens and businesses will be encouraged.
