Blinkit to Launch 30-Minute Deliveries, Establish Express Dark Stores to Compete with Amazon, Flipkart

Zomato-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit is set to introduce 30-minute delivery for high-value items, according to a report by Moneycontrol. Known for its 10-minute grocery delivery service, Blinkit is looking to diversify its offerings and boost profitability by venturing into new product categories such as instant water heaters, jewelry, air purifiers, and other premium goods.

As part of this new strategy, Blinkit is reportedly in the process of establishing larger “express dark stores” to facilitate these 30-minute deliveries. These stores, which will be nearly 7,000 to 8,000 square feet in size, are significantly larger than the typical dark stores (3,000 to 4,000 square feet) currently used for grocery deliveries. The expanded space will enable Blinkit to store and manage bigger items, positioning it as a key competitor to e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart.

A source familiar with the development shared, “Work on this has already begun and Blinkit plans to go live with the offering sometime mid of next financial year (FY26). The idea is to push up the company’s average order value (AOV) and compete more directly with the likes of Flipkart and Amazon.”

With Blinkit’s current AOV standing at ₹614, one of the highest in the quick commerce space, the company hopes that its entry into high-value item deliveries will further improve profitability. In comparison, competitors like Swiggy Instamart and Zepto have average order values ranging from ₹450 to ₹480.

Dark stores have become a pivotal part of quick commerce operations, allowing companies to fulfill rapid deliveries by strategically placing goods closer to consumers. By building larger express dark stores, Blinkit is looking to optimize its supply chain and serve a wider array of customer needs.

This move comes as Blinkit continues to explore avenues for growth in a maturing market. Other players in the industry, such as Tata’s BigBasket, are also considering a shift towards faster deliveries, but Blinkit is positioning itself to be among the first to launch a dedicated 30-minute delivery service for high-value products.
