Blinkit Introduces Free Coriander with Orders Following Customer Suggestion

Quick commerce service provider Blinkit has started offering complimentary coriander (dhaniya) with its vegetable orders. This initiative was prompted by a customer’s suggestion, highlighting the difference in practices between local vendors and online grocery shopping platforms. Traditionally, local vendors often include coriander for free with vegetable purchases, a practice that some online shoppers felt was lacking.

The new feature was announced by Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa on May 16, 2024, via X (formerly known as Twitter). Dhindsa’s post included a screenshot of a Blinkit cart containing vegetables along with the newly added free coriander. “It’s live! Everyone please thank Ankit’s mom,” he wrote, crediting the idea to a customer’s mother who was surprised by being charged for coriander while shopping on Blinkit.

Ankit Sawant, an X user, had earlier described his mother’s reaction to seeing coriander listed with a price tag on Blinkit. He suggested that the app should offer coriander for free when a certain quantity of vegetables is purchased. “Mom almost fainted when she saw dhaniya wasn’t free on Blinkit,” Sawant had posted.

Although details about the minimum order value or the required quantity of vegetables to qualify for the free coriander have not been confirmed, Dhindsa assured customers that the feature will be refined in the coming weeks.

Coriander is a staple herb in Indian cuisine, widely appreciated for its ability to enhance the flavor of various dishes. By incorporating this feedback, Blinkit aims to align more closely with traditional shopping experiences and meet customer expectations.
