Blinkit Appoints Former Flipkart Executive Vipin Kapooria as CFO

Zomato-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit has appointed Vipin Kapooria as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Kapooria joins Blinkit from Flipkart, where he served as Vice President for Business Finance.

In a LinkedIn post announcing his new role, Kapooria expressed his excitement, saying, “Super excited for the journey to build Blinkit alongside Albinder Dhindsa & team.” He will be working closely with Albinder Dhindsa, the CEO of Blinkit, in this new position.

Before joining Blinkit, Kapooria had an impressive tenure at Flipkart, where he started as Senior Director of Business Finance in 2020. His role was elevated to Vice President in 2022. Reflecting on his departure from the e-commerce giant, Kapooria said, “It marks the end of my seven successful years at Flipkart…As I embark on a new chapter in my career, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead.”

Kapooria brings nearly two decades of experience in the finance sector. Prior to Flipkart, he was the Vice President of Business Finance at OYO from 2018 to 2020. He has also worked with Whirlpool, Birlasoft, and Yum Restaurants International, further solidifying his extensive experience in the field.

In addition to this leadership change, Blinkit has recently expanded its offerings. The company has ventured into the quick food delivery segment with the launch of a new app, Bistro, which is currently in its pilot phase in parts of Gurugram. Bistro delivers meals, snacks, and beverages like tea and coffee within 15 minutes.

A month ago, Blinkit also began piloting a large-order fleet in Delhi NCR to test the delivery of larger products such as geysers, air purifiers, and PlayStation 5 units. This move signals Blinkit’s continued expansion in the quick commerce sector.

Further enhancing its operations, Blinkit launched the Blinkit Seller Hub in October, aimed at helping brands list and sell their products on the quick commerce platform.

On the financial front, Blinkit reported impressive growth. The company posted a revenue of INR 1,156 Crore for Q2 FY25, a significant increase from INR 505 Crore in the same quarter last year. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, revenue grew by 23%, from INR 942 Crore. Blinkit also narrowed its adjusted EBITDA loss to INR 8 Crore for the September quarter of 2024, compared to a loss of INR 125 Crore during the same period in the previous year.
