According to sources familiar with the matter, Atlys, an online platform for visa applications, has secured $12 million in its first funding round of 2023 from Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners.
Sources state that Atlys plans to utilise the newly acquired funds to expand its presence in India and other countries, as well as strengthen its team.
This brings the startup’s total funding to over $16 million, having raised $4.25 million in a seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) in October 2021, which also had participation from Pinterest co-founders Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp.
Atlys was founded by Mohak Nahta, a former engineer at Pinterest, with the aim of quickly resolving all visa-related issues. According to its website, Atlys has already assisted with over 120,000 visa applications to over 150 destinations, with an average application time of just 4 to 10 minutes.
The platform simplifies the application process for users by utilising smartphone cameras to scan documents and provides detailed guidance at every step.
In addition to simplifying visa applications, Atlys’ mobile app streamlines other travel-related tasks, including tracking appointments, taking passport photos at home, and securely storing travel documents and information for future use.
Atlys faces competition from Visa2Fly, a Gurugram-based startup that raised $414,000 in a pre-seed round led by ODX (On Deck) in the previous year. Visa2Fly has collaborated with SpiceJet, Ixigo, and several other travel companies to expand its distribution and reach.
