Apollo Hospitals Acquires Accel-Backed Healthtech Startup Onco

In a strategic move to strengthen its oncology offerings, Apollo Hospitals has quietly acquired cancer care aggregator Onco.com, quashing recent rumours of the startup’s shutdown. Sources confirmed that the deal was finalized in December 2024, although financial details remain undisclosed.
Founded in 2016 by Rashie Jain and Dr. Amit Jotwani, Onco.com made a mark in India’s healthtech ecosystem by offering end-to-end cancer care support. The platform connected patients with a network of global oncologists, hospitals, labs, and specialists, delivering personalized, scientifically backed treatment guidance throughout a patient’s cancer journey.
Earlier this month, the startup came into public focus after Harsh Pokharna, CEO of OkCredit, posted on LinkedIn that Onco had shut down. Citing the startup’s significant organic traffic—over 25,000 monthly visitors and 1,000+ leads—Pokharna expressed disappointment at the platform’s closure. However, industry insiders have now clarified that the startup was not shut down but rather acquired by Apollo.
“Apollo acquired Onco.com in a transaction that concluded in December 2024. It will now be built under Apollo’s broader oncology vision, with further capital infusion planned,” said a source familiar with the matter.
Onco had previously raised $13 million from investors including Accel, Rainmatter, and Alteria Capital. At its peak, the platform stood out for its organic digital presence and its critical role in simplifying complex cancer care for thousands of patients.
The acquisition comes at a pivotal time for Apollo, which is currently undergoing a demerger of its pharmacy and digital platform businesses. The group plans to spin off Apollo HealthCo into a separate entity—Apollo Healthtech—which will house both its omnichannel pharmacy distribution and the Apollo 24/7 digital platform. Sources indicate that an official announcement regarding the Onco acquisition will be made post-demerger.
Meanwhile, Rashie Jain, Onco’s cofounder and former CEO, has moved on to her next venture. She is now leading Marvix AI, a GenAI-first startup focused on automating administrative workflows for clinicians, including an AI scribe for physician-patient consultations. The US-headquartered startup aims to reduce burnout and improve documentation efficiency in clinical practice.
Co-founder Dr. Amit Jotwani, a practicing oncologist, has returned to full-time medical practice at Medicover Hospitals in Hyderabad.
