Amperity, a customer data platform now has executives from F5, RealWear, and HR

Amperity is expanding its executive team. The Seattle-based business recently appointed Megan McDonagh as chief marketing officer and Seema Kumar as chief people officer. Previously serving as F5’s vice president of human resources and a seasoned executive at Concur, Kumar. McDonagh worked at Intel for more than 20 years before serving as chief marketing officer of RealWear. The new employees will aid Amperity in sustaining the expansion of its customer data platform, which businesses use to understand who is purchasing their goods.

According to CEO Barry Padgett, the 2016-founded startup is experiencing a record-breaking year for new customer sign-ups. The company is in excellent shape, he declared. Following the untimely departure of former CEO and co-founder Kabir Shahani, Padgett assumed the role of CEO early this year.

Even though Amperity, a 400-person company, made a limited number of layoffs in August, Padgett said the company is still hiring even though many companies are cutting back on staff due to the uncertain economy. In the upcoming month or so, he said, “we’re hoping to onboard some great talent here with all the layoffs that are happening around us.”Amperity is feeling the effects of the shaky economy, according to Padgett. Deals are taking longer to complete and there are more requirements to meet before contracts can be signed.  However, Amperity is also benefiting from legislation governing the control of personal data and the rejection of third-party cookies. According to Padgett, businesses are attempting to manage their first-party data more frequently. We do that, he declared. “That’s our mainstay,” someone said. Amperity is also benefiting from the general slowdown in digital advertising.Companies are looking for a more efficient way to use their paid media budgets and ways to connect with customers more directly, Padgett said.

Amperity faces competition from a plethora of different customer data systems from businesses like Segment, which Twilio purchased, Adobe, Salesforce, Oracle, and other startups like Lytics. Padgett, a Concur and Stripe alum who joined Amperity in 2020, claimed that the business does not plan to raise additional funding and that it has a “very great road to profitability.” Amperity’s last round of fundraising was in 2021, when it had raised $100 million and had a valuation of $1 billion. HighSage Ventures, Tiger Global Management, Declaration Partners, and Madera Technology Partners are a few of the investors. The total amount of funding is $187 million.

The CEO of Accolade, Raj Singh, the former CEO of Starbucks, Kevin Johnson, and singer-songwriter Ciara are all members of Amperity’s board. When Shahani left the business earlier this year, he also resigned from the board. Appature was founded by Shahani and Derek Slager, co-founder of Amperity, and sold to IMS Health in 2013 after operating out of Seattle. Slager is still the chief technology officer at Amperity.
