Amazon India’s Consumer Electronics Head Ranjit Babu Resigns

Amazon India’s Consumer Electronics Head, Ranjit Babu, has resigned after nearly three years with the company. His departure comes at a time when the ecommerce giant is undergoing a significant restructuring.

According to a report from ET, citing sources familiar with the matter, Babu’s resignation is part of ongoing organizational changes at Amazon India. While Amazon India did not confirm the resignation directly, a spokesperson commented on the matter, stating, “Like any company around the world, employees can leave for either personal or professional reasons. Regardless, we remain focused on innovating and investing on behalf of our customers, sellers, and partners in India.”

Ranjit Babu, who has held the role of Director at Amazon India, managed various departments including Selling Partner Experience, Wireless and Home Entertainment, and Consumer Electronics during his tenure in Bengaluru. His LinkedIn profile indicates he has been with Amazon India for nearly three years.

Before his recent stint at Amazon India, Babu had worked with the company until July 2017, during which he held various managerial roles. After leaving Amazon, he joined Cloudtail India, an online retail business, where he served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer until April 2022. Babu’s extensive experience in the retail industry spans over 22 years.

His resignation follows the exit of another senior Amazon executive. Manish Tiwary, the head of Amazon India’s operations, resigned earlier this year after more than eight years with the company.

Despite these exits, Amazon remains focused on its strategy to strengthen its position in the Indian market, particularly in the face of emerging competitors. Recently, Amazon India made headlines by purchasing a 38.18-acre land parcel in Palava, near Mumbai, for over INR 450 Crores from the Lodha Group (Macrotech Developers). This acquisition is intended for the development of a hyperscale data center.

Additionally, Amazon is preparing to launch its quick commerce service, Tez, either by the end of this year or early next year, marking its foray into this fast-growing sector.

The resignation of top executives from both global corporations and startups has been a recurring theme throughout 2024. Recently, Nykaa Fashion’s CEO Nihir Parikh stepped down for personal reasons, while Disney’s Hotstar head, Sajith Sivanandan, resigned in October amid ongoing integrations following a $8.5 billion merger with Reliance’s media assets.
