In a bid to cater to the skill requirements of the expanding drone industry, Airbus has announced its plans to offer drone pilot training courses in India. These courses, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), are set to commence on June 26 and will be conducted at the Airbus Training Centre in Bengaluru.
Specifically designed for micro and small category drones, the comprehensive five-day program will encompass both theoretical and practical lessons. By enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of aspiring drone pilots, this initiative by the renowned US plane maker aims to contribute to the rapid growth of the drone sector in India.
Airbus India and South Asia head of customer services Laurie Alder said: “Building on Airbus’ growing presence in delivering high quality state-of-the art pilot and maintenance training in India, a broadening of the scope into drone training is a demonstration of our commitment to supporting the upskilling of India’s aviation infrastructure development. We believe that this course will provide industry-specific skills and knowledge of safe operations of drones to aspiring drone pilots in the country, which will help them develop their career in this rapidly growing industry.”
Airbus-approved instructors endorsed by DGCA will deliver comprehensive theoretical training encompassing drone regulations, fundamental flight principles, ATC protocols, maintenance, operations, and aerodynamics. Additionally, students will undergo drone piloting lessons consisting of simulator training and hands-on flying practice at an approved Airbus facility in Bengaluru. Airbus will supply the drones for training purposes. Upon successfully completing the course, students will be granted a certificate from Airbus.
Individuals who have accomplished their Class 10 education and fall within the age range of 18 to 65 are eligible to submit their applications for this program. In addition, applicants must possess a valid Indian passport and will be requested to provide a medical fitness certificate for both training and drone operation purposes.
