Government portal will allow senior citizens to apply for jobs beginning October 1

Beginning October 1, senior citizens seeking work opportunities will be able to register on a first-of-its-kind dedicated employee exchange.

On the MoSJ&E’s Senior Able Citizens for Re-employment in Dignity (SACRED) virtual platform, people over 60 can search for jobs.

In a statement, Social Justice and Autonomisation secretary R Subrahmanyam said the platform would bring together various stakeholders in order to provide work opportunities for the elderly. In order to facilitate this process, the ministry has written to a number of trade associations, including the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and Assocham, to increase employment opportunities.

People older than 60 years old can register with their skills, experience, and degree of interest. Candidates will be posted with job specifications and criteria by recruiters. It clarified, however, that the portal does not guarantee jobs but will act as an enabler for those seeking employment.

It was decided earlier that an inter-ministerial committee set up to create the SACRED exchange would approve Rs 10 crores for the project, along with Rs 60 crores for the creation, maintenance, and marketing of the site.
