Richard Branson Heads To Space Today, Ahead Of Bezos And Musk

While Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have been making plans to go to space, British billionaire Richard Branson heads to space today. With Virgin Galactic founder ready to soar with a crew of 70 into the blue on board the first fully crewed flight of his SpaceShipTwo aircraft, Unity 22, on Sunday. “I’ve been looking forward to this for 17 years,” said Branson, sounding ready for his trip into space.
Making Branson the first billionaire space entrepreneur to go into space. His fellow passengers will include Beth Moses, Virgin Galactic’s chief astronaut instructor, Colin Bennett, Virgin Galactic lead operations engineer and Sirisha Bandla, the Indian-origin vice president of government affairs and research operations at the company. VSS Unity will be piloted by Dave Mackay and Michael Masucci. Branson’s long-awaited trip to space would allow him to beat Amazon founder Jeff Bezos by nine days; the latter is set to fly on his company Blue Origin’s spacecraft on July 20.

Virgin Galactic announced on twitter saying that the live broadcast will begin at 6am PT, 2pm BST, and 9am ET. Viewers in India can catch the launch at 6:30pm IST. Virgin Galactic will broadcast the launch on its website as well as its YouTube channel.
