Delhi Chief Minister Announces Rs 3Cr Cash Prize For Tokyo Olympics Gold Medalists From The City: Manish Sisodia

Deputy Minister, Manish Sisodia highlights Delhi Govt’s initiative to reward Tokyo Olympics gold medalists with cash prize worth Rs 3 crores, Rs 2 crores to silver medal winners and a sum of Rs 1 crore to bronze medal holders from the city, in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, in a tweet on Friday evening.
The Tokyo Olympics will be held at the newly-built National Stadium in the Japanese capital opening on 23 July 2021 while the closing ceremony will be held on August 8, 2021 at the same venue. Sisodia expressing his enthusiasm and excitement for Olympics said, “buzz and excitement,” further adding, “Olympics is the only game in the world that brings the entire world together.” appreciating the spirit and enthusiasm related to the event seen globally.
The Delhi government has always been deeply concerned for the welfare and upbringing of Sports persons and has proposed a great reward to encourage future athletes, with more such steps, the country can encourage more such young people to represent the country and be recognised globally. Furthering his attention towards checking on the progress of the athletes of Delhi, held a meeting with Karnam Malleshswari, VC Delhi Sports university. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the role and steps of Delhi Sports university in preparing the athletes from Delhi for the Next Olympics games as mentioned by the Deputy Chief Minister. Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has always been mindful of the sportsperson and done a great deal in the past to support them as well. He started the ‘Mission Excellence Scheme’ in 2020 to provide financial assistance to players for training and more.
The Tokyo Olympics is the first Olympics to be rescheduled and will largely be held behind doors. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will feature a record 33 competitions and 339 events held across 42 competition venues, with a total of around 11,000 athletes from 206 countries are expected to participate in 33 sports in Tokyo Olympics 2021. The mascot of Tokyo Olympics 2020 is named Miratoiwa. The medals for Tokyo Olympics 2021 are made from recycled electronics. 5,000 gold, silver, and bronze medals were made from recycled electronics sourced from all over Japan, symbolising the energy and diversity of the athletes.” Further, there are some exciting features of the Tokyo Olympics, as this year will see the introduction of new competitions including 3×3 basketball, freestyle BMX, and Madison cycling, as well as further mixed events. These Games will see karate, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding make their Olympic debuts, as well as the return of baseball and softball for the first time since 2008.
