Amul Turnover Rises By 2 % To Rs 39,200 Crore In FY21


Despite Covid – 19, Amul turnover rises by 2 % to Rs 39,200 crore in FY21. The Gujarat Co – operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd has posted a 17 per cent increase in revenue to Rs 38,550 crore in the year 2019 – 2020. R S Sodhi, Managing Director of the company said that the growth rate had slowed down during the last fiscal year, but he expects things to jump up in the current fiscal year of 2021 – 2022. “We achieved 2 per cent growth in turnover, during the last fiscal year, to Rs 39,200 crore,” he said in a recent interview. However, the good news was, the branded consumer products like fresh cream , cheese, butter, milk, paneer, curd  has witnessed an increase of 8 – 9 %. Sales of ice cream suffered because last summer, when the demand for ice cream was at its highest, people were under lockdown. Commodity business of products like skimmed milk powder has also been affected.

The daily demand of milk for households maintained a same high graph , throughout the year, but the chunk supply of milk for restaurants, hotels, and cafes was nowhere near to its usual demand ince for a Majority part of the year restaurants were closed. Sodhi said,” We expect to return to higher double digit growth during the current financial year.” The co-operative sells around 150 lakh litres of milk each day, of which Gujarat makes the highest contribution of 60 allah litres, followed by Delhi and Maharashtra each contributing 35 lakh  litres and 20 lakh litres respectively. It also sells milk in Punjab, Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh. Recently, the company increased milk prices by Rs 2 across all its types and quantities after almost 2 years, to maintain sustainability.
