Ola Electric delivery delayed due to chips and electronics shortage

Ola Electric is scheduling the delivery of its electric scooters by pushing the aforementioned date back by two to four weeks. This delay is apparently caused due to the shortage of chip and electronic parts. Previously, the first batch of deliveries was supposed to be implemented by November 30th but couldn’t after consultation with the factory and realising the supply chain crisis.

Qualcomm is partnered with Ola Electric to provide them with the key 4G-connected octa-core android platform that provides connectivity and computing capabilities. Qualcomm gets its chip through third party manufacturers.  It is estimated that two-wheelers need about 20 microchips and sensors.

Tarun Mehta, the co-founder of  Ather Energy, another producer of EV scooters earlier said that the delivery of some chips have increased tenfold. So, Ola Electric in not the only player that is feeling the brunt of the global chip shortage.  MrMehta said,”The delivery time for these(chips) was earlier 3-4 weeks, now it is 36-38 weeks”.

The customers whose deliveries are delayed have been apologized by Ola  and said that it is ramping up production as fast as they can so that the customers can get their Ola S1 at the earliest.  However, they have stopped taking any new bookings until the chip shortage is sorted.
