Kerala wants more startups to develop EVs and electronic hardware

Electric mobility is quickly expanding in India, and many governments, including Kerala, should be credited for enacting dedicated EV (electric vehicle) legislation. But, aside from making the transition from fossil fuel-powered automobiles to electric vehicles easier, Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently stated that as part of the Kerala Startup Mission, more businesses in the state should focus on producing electric vehicles (KSUM).

After a visit to the ISC (Integrated Startup Complex) in Kerala, the Minister, who holds the portfolios of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, stated this. The Minister stressed that electric mobility is still in its infancy, and that entrepreneurs should take use of this chance to develop vehicles that will aid in the transition away from gasoline and diesel vehicles to cleaner modes of transportation.

Given how electric mobility is still in its infancy in most areas of the world, these firms should consider not only making products for the Indian market, but also investigating overseas markets.Rajeev Chandrasekhar pushed companies in Kerala to consider creating electronic gear using locally developed chips, citing the state’s expertise in electronic systems design. This is especially important in light of the COVID-19 epidemic, which has resulted in a global chip scarcity affecting a variety of businesses, including the automotive industry.

A shortage of semiconductors has resulted from an increase in demand for electronics (laptops, phones, etc, and reduced manufacturing due to COVID-19. This has had an impact on worldwide automobile production, including in India. In this case, locally manufactured chips and electronics gear can assist the sector.
