Founder of Hotmail, experimenting with the TikTok concept for job searchers and Startups.

One of the first email services that a specific generation (mainly those born in the 1990s) became aware of was hotmail. Sabeer Bhatia, one of the first renowned Indian technologists, founded the 250-year-old web-based email service. In 1997, Microsoft purchased Hotmail for $400 million. At the time, it was Microsoft’s largest acquisition. Sabeer Bhatia has since dabbled in e-commerce with Arzoo.com and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services with Sabse Technologies, both of which were eventually shuttered. Bhatia has now developed ShowReel, a new short video platform that promises to provide job seekers around the world with chances for employment and upskilling.

ShowReel, according to Bhatia, is a replication of offline human interactions into the virtual world. Bhatia became the poster boy for the IT sector when Hotmail, one of the world’s first email services, was sold to Microsoft for $400 million. “The pandemic had a direct impact on this product… “The fundamental idea behind showreel was to explore if we couldn’t build professional videos with a purpose, not just for amusement for other people to see, but for telling something about myself and what the most essential thing you want to communicate when you want to get employed,” Bhatia told PTI.

It was developed to match job searchers with organisations struggling to locate talent, and it is now in Beta mode. Job searchers will be able to use ShowReel to create professional videos of themselves in response to queries provided by mentors or employers. The programme then compiles all of the responses into a professional ShowReel. These questions, which are based on real-life circumstances, will provide those seeking guidance in areas such as professional, personal, leadership, and entrepreneurial growth with an opportunity to prepare and self-improve.

Other social media channels can also be used to share these videos. The professional ShowReels will enable job searchers to advertise themselves and get their dream employment, with partner organisations coming on board to tackle hiring difficulties. “It’s the appropriate time. Smartphones have taken over the world. Smartphones are becoming more affordable… Even the poorest members of society can use it. Here’s an opportunity to bring out the best in people by assisting them in creating videos for a good purpose, whether it’s for job or health reasons. “That’s why now is the appropriate time,” he concluded.
