E-sports streaming platform Twitch, owned by Amazon, said on Wednesday that it had been breached, without elaborating. Video Games Chronicle reported that an anonymous hacker had exposed Twitch data related to the company’s source code, clients, and unreleased games.
According to Twitch, the company “is working with urgency to determine the extent of this breach.” The company declined to elaborate further and said that “as soon as more information is available, we will update the community.” Amazon did not respond immediately.
Hackers intended to disrupt the online video streaming market, the Video Games Chronicle reported. According to the report, 125GB of data was leaked, including the highest-paid Twitch video game streamers for 2019. These include the voice actors of one of Twitch’s most popular games and Canadian streamer xQcOW, who earned $8.4 million.
“Twitch leak is real. Includes significant amount of personal data,” cyber security expert Kevin Beaumont tweeted.
Twitch is an online platform for e-sports hosted by musicians and video gamers, where they interact with users while live streaming. Twitch has more than 30 million daily visitors.
Users boycotted the platform earlier this year after it didn’t adequately block harassment, but previously made a move to ban members for offenses such as hate-group membership and credible threats of mass violence.
