There is not yet much detail publicly available regarding the planned takeover of Reliance Communications, but the company’s decision to end operations in India last month surprised thousands of workers. Stalin had requested that the Tata Group Chairman consider picking up Ford’s unit as a way to entice more investment into the state. V Irai Anbu, chief secretary of the department, and industries minister Thangam Thennarasu attended the meeting.

In the wake of Ford’s decision to discontinue its Indian auto manufacturing operations, TN’s Minister of Rural Industries, TM Anbarasan, expressed confidence that the state will be able to reach some sort of settlement with Ford employees. Ford, which has invested about $2.5 billion in its Chennai and Sanand (Gujarat) plants, will stop selling vehicles like the EcoSport, Figo, and Aspire.
