Foxconn Technology Group, the Taiwanese company that manufactures smartphones for Apple Inc and other global brands has started a new initiative by foraying into the EV market. Let us tell you that Foxconn is very famous in the global consumer electronics space. The company recently took the wraps off an electric SUV and a sedan model.
Foxconn posted a teaser video of three new electric vehicles last week. The clip shows a black sedan with sleek full-width light bars at the front and rear. There is a Pininfarina badge by the front fenders, indicating that the Italian design house that styled many Ferrari and Maserati cars must have had something to do with the car. Foxconn offered a full glimpse of the two other vehicles it is planning. In which there is an SUV and a bus.
Foxconn is manufacturing the EV under the Foxtron brand. The electronics maker isn’t just planning its EVs, it is making deals in the auto sector as it is becoming increasingly clear that the future of the industry is electric.
“We are no longer the new kid in town,” said Young Liu, president of Foxconn’s flagship unit, High Precision Industry Company. “We have slowly built up an EV supply chain and demonstrated our EV hardware. This company’s move into EVs could be very important as Foxconn can now possibly support Apple Inc.’s secret automotive project.
It’s no secret that Apple has been eyeing the mobility space for some time now. The Apple Car, often dubbed as the iCar, will be the most important car for EV makers, and it is speculated that Foxconn could benefit from its good relationship with Apple.
