Flipkart’s Shopsy plans entry into Grocery Market in next few months
Shopsy, Flipkart’s social commerce offering, is reportedly set to expand into the grocery market in the next 3-6 months. The platform has reported a 40x growth since its launch in July 2021. The site has amassed 2.5 lakh sellers, 51 lakh users, and a catalogue of over 15 crore products. It quickly rose to become the leading social commerce platform in India within 100 days of its launch.
The company is currently gearing up to obtain a larger market share in the grocery ecosystem. Prakash Sikaria (Senior VP, Growth and Monetisation), in an interview with Inc42, stated, “Flipkart is eyeing different cohorts of consumers — trying to solve their needs more deeply. Thus, in the next 3-6 months, we will see a lot more continued focus on grocery shopping, with Shopsy participating in it, more meaningfully.”
The platform’s simplified social media interface makes for an effortless user experience. Walmart-owned e-commerce company Flipkart has expressed a desire to democratise commerce and disrupt the social commerce landscape with Shopsy.
Parent company Flipkart holds less than 3 per cent market share in the e-groceries ecosystems currently.
