FIR filed against Dream11 in Karnataka, company suspends operations in state
Gaming platform Dream11 has suspended all operations in Karnataka, as reported on Sunday, following complaints about violations of the state’s new ban disallowing any ‘games of chance.’
The Bengaluru Police filed a first information report (FIR) against Dream11 co-founders Harsh Jain and Bhavit Seth following allegations about the company continually offering its services within the state a week after the state implemented the ban.
The Karnataka Police Amendment Act, 2021 was passed by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in late September and included online gambling in the list of gambling activities prohibited in the state- the violation of which is considered a ‘cognizant and non-bailable offense.’
Dream11 has held, however, that they have not violated any law and have complied with the new guidelines.
The fantasy gaming platform addressed the situation on Sunday and said, “In order to allay our users’ concerns, we have decided to suspend operations in Karnataka. This decision is without prejudice to our rights and contentions under law.”
