Tata Consumer Products and Bisleri are yet to make a comment on the upcoming deal. After the news got revealed Tata Consumer became the top gainer among Nifty50 stocks where their price rose over 2.5% in early trade.

The Tata Group’s consumer business is held under Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) where they sell packaged mineral water under brands like Himalayan and with brands such as Tata Copper Plus Water and Tata Gluco in the hydration segment. In FY2021, the Indian bottled water market was valued at over USD 2.43 billion (around ₹19,315 crores), according to a report by market research and advisory TechSci Research.

The TechSci Research report further added that the bottled water market has been projected to grow at a CAGR of 13.25 percent because of increasing disposable income, rising health and hygiene awareness, and increasing product innovation, the report added.

“Bottled water is gaining popularity among consumers because it is thought to be more hygienic than loose normal water in the market, which is not good for health and is unsafe to drink,” the report said.

Several popular companies like Coca-Cola India through its brand Kinley, PepsiCo’s Aquafina, Bailley from Parle Agro, and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)’s Rail Neer have been competing in this segment. However, Bisleri leads this segment as a dominant brand among all of them.
