Microsoft to go fully passwordless

Microsoft now offers you to get rid of passwords from Microsoft accounts making way for a passwordless future. Microsoft will allow Microsoft account holders to sign in with its Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, a security key, or an SMS / email verification code instead of a password, starting from today.
To disable password authentication, one can go to account.microsoft.com and open Advanced Security Options. Next, go to Additional Security Options, then look for Passwordless Account. Switch to the “Turn on” option. This requires the installation and setting up of the Microsoft Authenticator app first.
Passwordless authentication operates with “something you are or you have” such as biometrics or hardware security keys to authenticate you. On the other hand, passwords are “something you know,” which turn out to be an issue when that information is found or guessed by others.
The transition is important for anyone who wants to stave off hackers and identity thieves. The initiative is part of a four-step effort to make Microsoft accounts safe from hackers and to avoid the inconveniences of having to recollect complicated passwords.
In order to give insights about the passwordless initiative, Microsoft has scheduled a digital event on October 13 which will bring together industry experts to share their thoughts and ideas for a passwordless world.
